During a meeting in February the Project partners selected four countries with the most effective waste sorting and treatment. The selection was based on the Eurostat data. Liepajas RAS analysed the Irish experience as a successful case study. This analysis showed that the 16 year waste management policy has resulted in the treatment of 38% household waste and 39% plastic packaging material.
In Ireland households and legal entities are connected to one_, two- or three-waste container system; widely-developed is also the network of sorted waste areas and a high natural resource tax for waste disposal is in place. All that has contributed to a remarkable achievement in waste sorting at source and waste recycling.
